Alton Community Choir was started by Carolyn Robson in 2000 with a grant from TAPS. Numbers have grown steadily from an initial 12 members to almost 70 in 2008. No auditions are necessary and the ability to read music is not a requirement. We are of all ages and abilities but share a love of singing for pleasure.
The choir enjoys performing at concerts and events in the community, both in Alton and other areas, and our profits go to local charities. Many of the songs we sing are traditional ones collected in Hampshire, but we also include songs from around the world in our varied repertoire. The music is arranged in 3 or 4 part harmonies for unaccompanied voices. We have recently recorded a CD - click on CD Sample Clips to hear some of our repertoire and to order a copy.
If you would like Alton Community Choir to perform for a community event or charity fundraiser, click on Contacts and Links for further details.
Due to the present high number of members we regret that we are currently unable to take in new people and have a long waiting list for membership. If you wish your name to be placed on the waiting list, please click on Contacts and Links .
There are Community Choirs in Guildford, Petersfield, Andover and Winchester, as well as a Choral Society in Alton. Go to the Contacts and Links page for details.
